Capio establishes hospital of the future in Bromma Capio has today decided to start a local hospital, Bromma Närsjukhus, in Bromma, a suburb of Stockholm. The new facility will be a local medical centre for this residential western Stockholm suburb, with excellent conditions in regard to access, patient flow and renewal. St. Göran's Hospital will plan and manage the development of Bromma Närsjukhus, which is expected to open for patient-care operations at the beginning of 2003. Bromma Närsjukhus, which is expected to open at the beginning of 2003, will be equipped with operating theatres, nursing wards, specialist consulting rooms and paramedical departments (physiotherapy, treatment, etc.). An X-ray department and chemical laboratory will also be established at the hospital. Primary care and geriatric care will be jointly located on the premises. "In terms of population, Bromma is Stockholm's fastest-growing suburb and that is why we are opening a new hospital there. This will be Capio's first local hospital and, as such, will create opportunities for expansion and development in other areas. Bromma Närsjukhus will also unburden some of the strain on St. Göran's Hospital and create capacity for the transfer of more emergency care services for the inhabitants of the Östermalm district of Stockholm, as announced earlier," says Stanley Brodén, Head of Capio's business area Hospitals. It is estimated that Bromma Närsjukhus will be capable of handling 12,000 visits to specialist physicians and 10,000 visits to the paramedical units, in addition to conducting 2,000 X-ray examinations and 25,000 laboratory analyses per year. Furthermore approximately 4,000 operations are expected to be conducted each year, mainly on an outpatient basis, which reflects a significant increase in Capio's capacity for surgery. A staff of approximately 100 persons will be employed at the new hospital. The establishment of this facility is based on the close co-operation that has existed between St. Göran's Hospital, Stockholm County Council and the City of Stockholm from the start of the planning process. It is estimated that Bromma Närsjukhus will generate annual revenues of approximately SEK 100 M when operating at full capacity.
