St. Göran's Hospital entrusted to operate the Geriatric Clinic at Löwenströmska Hospital St. Göran's Hospital has today signed a contract with Stockholm County Council's Northwestern Healthcare District (NSVO) to assume responsibility for and operate the Geriatric Clinic at Löwenströmska Hospital. The transfer will become effective on January 1, 2002 and the contract will remain in force until January 31, 2006. The healthcare contract with St. Göran's Hospital is worth SEK 65-70 M per year. The bid by St. Göran's Hospital was made in the NSVO tender process and results in the Northwestern Geriatric Clinic now being divided into two parts. The aim is to develop the local provision of healthcare services and to co-operate with neighbouring healthcare facilities. The Northwestern Geriatric Clinic at Löwenströmska Hospital has 50 beds and a geriatric outpatients department. The clinic, which has a staff of 140, has the capacity to treat slightly more than 1,000 inpatients and some 1,500 outpatients each year. The Geriatric Clinic will become a unit within the St. Göran's Hospital organisation and all staff will be offered employment by the parent company, St. Göran's Hospital AB. "This assignment marks a breakthrough for St. Göran's. As an emergency care hospital, our ambition is to create the best possible chain of healthcare services. The work started at Northwestern Geriatric, which focuses on the provision of local care to elderly patients, combined with a preventive-care working method and an emphasis on co-operating with neighbouring healthcare facilities, fits in extremely well with the type of healthcare concept that we want to develop," says Åke Strandberg, Chief Executive of St. Göran's Hospital. Commenting on the new contract, Sonja Weiland, (Conservative Party) Chairman of the NVSO Board, noted: "Care of the elderly is an important part of our operations. We have now concluded a successful tender process based on several competing bids. The result is a new provider of care services, St. Göran's Hospital, which will now assume responsibility for part of the Northwestern Geriatric Clinic. St. Göran's is a highly regarded provider of healthcare services and will contribute both experience and professionalism. I am convinced that St. Göran's has all the necessary means to also provide sound care services in the geriatric area." Stockholm, June 19, 2001 St. Göran's Hospital AB is a member of the Capio Group, a leading provider of healthcare services in Europe. St. Göran's, which has approximately 1,400 employees and can accommodate 230 inpatients, reported revenues of SEK 920 M in year 2000. The hospital has clinics for emergency care, orthopaedics, medicine, surgery, anaesthesia, radiology and physiology, as well as its own service organisation.
