Cardo's business area Rail has received three important orders for brake equipment. These orders cover equipment for 225 locomotives for Austria and for a total of 181 commuter trains for Germany. The total value of the orders amounts to SEK 173 million.

Siemens has placed an order worth SEK 120 million for brake equipment for 225 Taurus locomotives for the Austrian national railway company ÖBB. Deliveries will begin in 2003, and the first locomotives will be commissioned in 2005.

Cardo Rail has previously received similar orders from Siemens relating to brake equipment for 220 locomotives, of which 175 for the Austrian national railway company. So far, 71 of these locomotives have been delivered.

Two orders, together worth SEK 53 million, apply to a project in Germany and relate to brake equipment for electrically driven commuter trains. A consortium consisting of Alstom LHB and Adtranz has ordered equipment for 110 trains, each consisting of four cars. The end customer is Deutsche Bahn, which will operate the new trains on the Munich-Stuttgart line. Another consortium, consisting of Alstom LHB, Adtranz and Siemens, has ordered brake equipment for 71 trains of the same type. These trains will operate in North Rhine-Westphalia, also under the management of Deutsche Bahn.

The first delivery is planned for June 2001, and the first trains will go into operation in 2003.

"The inflow of orders for Rail has been good during the beginning of the year. When it comes to the important German and Austrian markets, we could already note an increase in 2000. The present orders further strengthen this positive trend," says Kjell Svensson, Cardo's president and CEO.

The brake equipment for both Germany and Austria will be manufactured at Cardo Rail's plants in Germany and France.

Cardo Rail is a business area in the Cardo group and one of the world's largest manufacturers of brake systems for rail vehicles. Rail's turnover amounts to SEK 2.5 billion. Marketing is conducted under the SAB WABCO trademark.
