Car Finance 247 illustrate the state of the world’s roads

A £30 billion blueprint is being considered by the capital’s mayor, Boris Johnson, in a bid to aid congestion*. Among the proposals is covering some of London’s major roads with roofing, and building cycle paths and parks on top. The introduction of more 20mph speed limits are also being considered in a bid to get people to walk and cycle more, and drive less.

With this in mind, online car finance specialist www.carfinance247.co.uk have built a tongue-in-cheek infographic** which takes a look at some of the world’s worst roads, including:

  • imagine spending 40 days in a traffic jam – Suschesky Val in Moscow has the dubious honour of being the most congested road in the world. The average traffic jam in 2007 lasted almost 40 days!
  • you will be in for a bumpy ride if you drive down Lumumba Avenue in Kampala, Uganda. It has an average of 83 potholes per kilometre (133.1 potholes per mile)
  • the UK has earned the distinction of having the world’s most confusing roundabout. The so-called Magic Roundabout in Swindon has five roundabouts all feeding in to one another, with 35,560 cars passing through each day.

Emily Henshall, Marketing Manager at Carfinance247.co.uk, says "The old saying that sometimes you don't know how good you've got it, rings true in the case of our roads. It really could be a lot worse, as our infographic highlights!"
