It may have first been seen on the big screen in Goldfinger in 1964, but James Bond’s Aston Martin is still the average person’s dream car, reveals light-hearted new research* from car finance and dealer specialist www.carfinance247.co.uk.

54% of people chose the DB5 out of a list of iconic TV and film vehicles as their number one dream car, beating Kitt2000 from Knightrider (22%) and Back to the Future’s Delorean (10%).

Interestingly, although the Aston Martin is portrayed as very masculine car (because of the James Bond connection) 71% of females chose the DB5 as their dream car, compared to just 46% of men.

Male motorists’ second favourite vehicle was Kitt2000 from Knight Rider, while, for lady drivers, it was Penelope Pitstop’s Compact Pussycat car from the Wacky Races.

Among the other dream cars were BA Baracus’s A-Team van, General Lee from Dukes of Hazzard, Ford Gran Tourino from Starsky & Hutch, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Emily Henshall, Marketing Manager at Carfinance247.co.uk, says: “Although it is very unlikely that any of these cars will be up for sale any time soon at a price that Joe Public can afford, it is interesting to see the types of cars people would buy if money was no object. It was also surprising to see the James Bond DB5 appealing more so to women than men."

In February, one of the four original Aston Martin DB5’s that featured in the Goldfinger and Thunderball films was put up for sale £3m**
