Flight Centre Travel Group Poised for Mexico Expansion with Pending Acquisition of Koch Overseas de Mexico
Flight Centre Travel Group (FCTG) has signed a preliminary agreement to acquire Mexico City-based Koch Overseas de Mexico, a corporate travel management business with a rich history in the country dating back to 1950. The deal is expected to be finalized by in the coming months, upon ratification by the FCTG board.
Koch Overseas de Mexico has been operating for 65 years and employs more than 100 people in its offices in Mexico City, Monterrey, Puebla and Cancun. The business is already closely aligned with FCTG as it is currently part of the global FCm Travel Solutions network under the FCTG umbrella. Manuel Viñas, president of FCm Travel Solutions Mexico, will report in to Dean Smith, president of FCTG The Americas, and continue to oversee all operations in the country.
"We know the business and its people well, given that Koch has operated successfully as an independent FCm licensee since 2006, and believe it will be a great addition to our network," FCTG managing director Graham Turner said. “Having a company-owned presence in Mexico is a natural extension of our business in North America, which now includes more than 550 shops and businesses in the United States and Canada, and will provide a springboard for further growth in the region. This also enhances our ability to compete for and win corporate travel accounts throughout the Americas," Turner added.
FCTG now has about 2800 shops and businesses in Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, Singapore, mainland China, Hong Kong, India, Ireland and the United Arab Emirates.
