APPLUS+ IDIADA COMPLETES THE MOST POWERFUL ELECTRIC SPORTS CAR IN THE WORLD

The Project developed by the Spanish multinational at the request of the European Commission reveals that the electric vehicle can achieve a sporting performance

27 February 2013 - Applus + IDIADA, a division of Applus+ specialized in engineering for the international automotive industry, has successfully completed the Volar-e Project, an innovative prototype of an electric car with high performance, comparable and even superior to sporting vehicles with conventional engines.

Applus+ IDIADA, specialized in providing design, engineering, testing, and standardization services, won the European Commission’s assignment at the end of 2012 in a tender attended by companies all over Europe. In only four months, the company has managed to meet and to surpass the performance required by the EC, with the following attributes to be highlighted:

• Driveline:
  • o    To equip the vehicle with maximum power and torque (1000 CV, 1000Nm)
  • o    To achieve a rapid charging time (20 minutes)
• Vehicle dynamics:
  • o    Regenerative breaking system
  • o    Aerodynamic
  • o    Independent power control for the four motors, iTORQ original by Applus+ Adiada

According to Fernando Basabe, Applus+’ CEO, “this project is a recognition of Applus+ IDIADA’s technological capacity in the engineering field for the automation industry”. Carles Grasas, Applus+ IDIADA’s CEO highlights the technological achievement which this CE assignment supposes for the company: “to conclude this project successfully in four months is the best demonstration of the company’s capacities in engineering and project management”.

This project, which is co-financed by the European Commission, will allow Applus+’ prototype to become a standard to promote electric vehicles in European society, by revealing their possible engine power to customers, the automobile industry, the energy sector and public bodies.

The prototype developed by Applus+ IDIADA will be presented on the 28 February at the Catalunya Circuit during the F1 Test Days.

Excellence in electric vehicles

In the past few years, Applus+ IDIADA has made an important bet to undertake research in electric vehicles. The company’s Electric Vehicle Centre for Excellence, presented in December 2011, is one of the principal areas of technological know-how in terms of the vehicles of the future.

Together with iShare, an innovative concept in electrical cars designed to enable car sharing, which the company presented in China at the end of last year, Applus+ IDIADA has developed other projects such as eBorn3, focused on the working capacities and multiple abilities of electric tourism; eTruck, enabling integral electrical power in a light commercial vehicle, and eScooter, an electric motorcycle developed for local partners.
