Outokumpu´s holding in AvestaPolarit exceeds 95%

Outokumpu's holding in AvestaPolarit exceeds 95% Outokumpu has today issued the following notification to the Stockholm Stock Exchange: Outokumpu Oyj ("Outokumpu"), Business Identity Code 0215254-2 and address Riihitontuntie 7 B, 02200 Espoo, Finland, has on September 24, 2002, acquired 2 973 496 shares in AvestaPolarit Oyj Abp ("AvestaPolarit"). Subsequent to these acquisitions, Outokumpu currently owns 333 850 337 shares in AvestaPolarit, corresponding to 95.7% of all the shares and votes. The acceptance period for the redemption offer continues, as previously announced, up until September 26, 2002. Outokumpu may, if it so decides, extend the redemption offer period by a maximum of two months, so that the redemption offer period expires on November 26, 2002 at the latest. Outokumpu will separately announce the possible extension of the redemption offer period.
