- Castle Stuart Golf Links launches Harris Tweed collection
- New products join together two iconic brands
- First pro shop to stock luxury range of accessories
Castle Stuart Golf Links has launched its own Harris Tweed golf range, bringing together two world renowned Scottish symbols of quality.
The golf club, which takes its name and spire logo from the nearby Castle Stuart, is now stocking the collection, which has been designed by Dunblane-based Mairead Hume using authentic Harris Tweed bearing the material’s famous orb trademark.
A range of accessories in two colours - including club covers, glasses cases, golf tee bags, valuables pouches, shoe bags and trolley muffs - have been specially designed for the famous links course near Inverness that will host the Scottish Open championship for the fourth time in six years in 2016.
Stuart McColm, general manager at Castle Stuart Golf Links, said: “Harris Tweed is a quality product, known across the world, and an iconic brand name. It is a perfect fit for us at Castle Stuart and our international market.”
Mairead Hume and her staff make all products by hand to order, using cloth woven by traditional weavers in Lewis and Harris. Castle Stuart is the first golf pro shop to stock the accessories, although the company is in discussion with other leading courses.
Mairead said: “Castle Stuart is a globally known links course due to its hosting of the Scottish Open, and its distinctiveness and reputation for quality mirrors the attributes of our bespoke Harris Tweed products.”
Four golfers on the Ladies European Tour also use Mairead Hume accessories, including Sally Watson, from Elie, in Fife, who is sponsored by Castle Stuart Golf Links and wears the club’s logo.
Castle Stuart Golf Links, which last year was placed at No. 56 on Golf Magazine's Top 100 Courses in the World, hosted the Scottish Open for three successive years from 2011-2013. The 2013 tournament, won by Phil Mickelson, reached a worldwide television audience of more than 500 million and generated exposure worth more than £53 million.
It was announced in July that the course will host the championship again in 2016
