- Scots band ready to launch debut album
- Coatbridge-based group are first to be signed to Cave Wall Records
- Six-piece to perform at launch party on Friday
Newly-signed Scottish band Gia Valentina will launch their debut album at G2 in Glasgow this week.
The Coatbridge-based six-piece alternative outfit are the first act to be signed to new independent Scottish label Cave Wall Records, which have been launched by Cave Wall Studios .
Since making their first demo as a band in January 2013, Gia Valentina have been gigging around Glasgow while writing and recording the ten-track, self-titled album, which will be issued on both CD and vinyl.
The band – vocalist Steven Warnock, guitarists John McArthur and Ciaran ‘Cheesy’ Febers, bass guitarist Andrew Tracey, drummer Anton Lafferty and keyboard player and vocalist Amy Robertson – will perform at the launch in front of a 350-strong audience on Friday (30 May).
Steven said: “We are extremely excited at the forthcoming launch of our first album and sharing our music to a wider audience. We are grateful to Cave Wall Records for giving us this chance and we look forward to a long and successful relationship.”
David Lang, Cave Wall Studios manager, said he first worked with Gia Valentina just over a year ago: “I was working as a sound engineer and they came to me to record their first E.P together as a band.
“When the E.P was finished I knew they had something and that they needed to be heard. We made a point of tracking their progress as a band from then. When we felt we were in the right position, there was really no other band we wanted as our first signing.
“The band’s following is growing day by day and the launch night is not just about the new album, but also about taking their music to a new level and a new audience.”
David said Cave Wall decided to issue the album on vinyl as well as CD as sales of the format have risen sharply in recent years: “The growth in vinyl sales, especially in the independent market, has beaten the other main hardcopy media format of CD.
“Also, as a label, we feel there is a charm with vinyl that can’t be replicated any other way. For Cave Wall Records, vinyl is the way to go.”
Gia Valentina are also in the line-up for an all-day gig at the Eagle Inn in Coatbridge on 9 August, alongside acts including Pronto Mama and The Velveteen Saints.
