Caverion modernising the telematic system on motorway E18 between Turku and Muurla in Finland
Caverion and the Finnish Transport Agency have made an agreement on the modernisation of the telematic system for managing traffic on the E18 motorway between Turku and Muurla. The agreement also includes a major renovation of the Isokylä tunnel in Salo. Caverion is the main contractor of the project, and the value of the agreement is EUR 5.5 million.
“This modernisation project between Turku and Muurla is the first major replacement investment for telematics in Finland. Finnish Transport Agency is happy to have an experienced partner to carry out this challenging task,” says Juha Sillanpää, Project Manager at Finnish Transport Agency.
Caverion will execute a project to modernise a telematic system, installed in 2003, over a 60-kilometre stretch of motorway. Work began in May and the target is to deploy the new system by the end of the year. At the same time, the concrete and steel structures and ventilation system in the 435-meter-long Isokylä tunnel will be repaired and the tunnel's safety systems will be modernised. The tunnel works will continue until midsummer.
"Digital functionality is a part of our modern-day mobility, and up-to-date control systems will have a major impact on transport and tunnel safety. A uniquely challenging aspect for the execution of this project is reconciling traffic diversions and lane closures with work on a busy road," says Ville Tamminen, Head of Division Finland at Caverion.
