Caverion selected to the development phase of the consortium constructing the Lahti stretch of Lahti's southern ring road

Caverion has made an agreement on technical tunnel systems with the VALTARI consortium, which is constructing the Lahti stretch of the city of Lahti's new southern ring road on Main Road 12. Parties to VALTARI consortium are Finnish Transport Agency, city of Lahti, municipality of Hollola, Skanska Infra Oy and Pöyry Finland Oy.

“The technical systems in tunnels and their successful and disruption-free commissioning are very significant for the completion of the entire project. Caverion has extensive experience with technical tunnel systems, and the agreement enables leveraging this experience right from the design solution stage,” says Janne Wikström, Project Manager at the Finnish Transport Agency.

The development stage of the consortium project started in August 2017 and will last until spring 2018. Caverion's area of responsibility at the development stage is the technical systems in tunnels: Heating and Sanitation, Ventilation and Air Conditioning, Cooling, Electricity, Information and Communication Services, Security and Safety, and Telematics (traffic management).

"We are very happy to be part of this significant national road project. Using the latest tunnel technology is above all an investment to road user safety,” says Riku Mandelin, Senior Vice President at Caverion Finland.

The Lahti southern ring road project aims to ensure smoother and safer traffic on Main Road 12 and to promote the development opportunities for land use and industry and commerce in the entire Lahti region. The entire road project includes the construction of Main Road 12 Lahti southern ring road and improving the south access road to Lahti on highway 167. The construction work on highway 167 started in spring 2017, and the construction on Main Road 12 will start in 2018.

Caverion is currently implementing the technical systems for the Teollisuuskatu tunnel in Helsinki and the Isokylä tunnel in Salo on Main Road 1. Caverion has previously delivered technical systems for such tunnels as the Ring Road 1 Mestarintunneli in the Leppävaara district of Espoo, the Markkinamäki tunnel on E18 motorway and the Hämeenlinna tunnel on Main Road 3.
