Global engineering group, Cavotec, has won an order to supply 24 MoorMaster™ MM200C automated mooring units, specifically designed for use in container port applications. The project is one of the largest Cavotec has registered to date for this innovative mooring technology.

Under the multi-million euro contract, Cavotec will manufacture, engineer, install and commission 24 MoorMaster™ MM200C units, which will be used on an exposed berth at a Mediterranean Sea port. This MoorMaster™ system will deliver productivity and utilisation increases that are not possible with traditional mooring methods.

This is the second location involving MM200Cs units at a dedicated container port, following an order from the Port of Salalah in Oman for 12 MM200Cs in 2009.

“This major project highlights the exceptional versatility of MoorMaster™. In light of our recent successes with the technology in other applications such as bulk handling, I’m very pleased to see a new MoorMaster™ project with the container industry,” says Ottonel Popesco, Cavotec CEO.

MoorMaster™ is an increasingly accepted and widely adopted technology. It has performed more than 40,000 mooring operations, with a 100 per cent safety record, at ferry, bulk handling, Ro-Ro, container and lock applications around the world.

“The degree of automation and associated safety and productivity gains that MoorMaster™ offers represents a genuine step-change in mooring operations,” notes Patrick Rosenwald, Managing Director of Cavotec MoorMaster.

MoorMaster™ is a vacuum-based automated mooring technology that eliminates the need for conventional mooring lines. Remote controlled vacuum pads recessed in, or mounted on, the quayside, moor and release vessels in seconds. The technology dramatically improves safety and operational efficiency, and also enables ports to make infrastructure savings.

Cavotec's other innovative technologies in the ports sector include shore-to-ship power systems (AMP), Panzerbelt cable protection systems, crane controllers, marine propulsion slip rings, power chains and connectors, radio remote controls, motorised and spring driven cable reels and steel chains.
