The Port Equipment Manufacturers’ Association (PEMA) is proud to announce its participation in the upcoming Terminal Operations Conference (TOC) for the Americas.

“PEMA is proud to be participating at the TOC Americas – a crucial forum for the shipping, ports and terminals industries,” says Ottonel Popesco, PEMA President.

This year’s TOC Americas will be held on November 18 to 20, at the Long Beach Convention Centre in California.

Launched in 1976, the TOC portfolio now includes three annual shipping, ports and terminal events in the major economic regions of Europe, Asia and the Americas. The longest running event of its type in the world, TOC celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2006.

Popesco will be chairing a discussion workshop at the TOC, entitled ‘Port Environmental Technologies’.

“Over the coming few years, port authorities and terminal operators will be challenged to considerably reduce their environmental impact while simultaneously handling more traffic,” says Popesco.

“Achieving these targets will require development of a new generation of cargo handling technologies from berth to gate and beyond,” Popesco adds.

The discussion will cover Alternative Maritime Power (AMP), or ‘cold ironing’, the use of alternative fuels, energy regeneration technologies, and all-electric and hybrid systems.

Elected PEMA President in February this year, Popesco also serves as CEO of global engineering group, Cavotec MSL.
