CeCe Cares Pediatric Epilepsy Foundation Bear Initiative Kicks off with First Order of 2,000 CeCe Bears®
Teddy Bears to be Delivered to Children Affected by Epilepsy
Chicago (July 22, 2011) - The CeCe Cares Pediatric Epilepsy Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing joy and support to children living with epilepsy, is pleased to announce the first 2,000 bears for the CeCe Bear® Initiative have been ordered and will be delivered to medical centers across the country this November in honor of National Epilepsy Awareness Month.
When the daughter of CeCe Cares founders Sarah and Pete Cunningham, Cecelia, was hospitalized with epilepsy, a nurse gave Cecelia a cuddly rabbit to provide her with some much-needed fun, comfort and distraction. Touched by this gesture and aware of how much this simple toy meant to Cecelia, the Cunningham family started the CeCe Cares Pediatric Epilepsy Foundation with a mission of providing teddy bears to epileptic children in hospital.
The bear was created from a picture drawn by Cecelia’s twin sister Reese and is produced by the "My Own Bear" program run by the North American Bear Company.
The CeCe Cares Pediatric Epilepsy Foundation is currently partnered with Rush University Medical Center, Comer Children’s Hospital, Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and the Saint Louis Children’s Hospital as bear recipient hospitals and is on track have a total of 15-20 hospital partners by the end of the year.
“We are really excited to send out the first shipment of bears,” said Pete Cunningham. “Since starting the CeCe Cares Pediatric Epilepsy Foundation in February of 2011, I have been thoroughly impressed by the generosity of everyone who has helped make this first order of 2,000 bears come in so quickly.”
Along with the CeCe Bear® Initiative, the CeCe Cares Pediatric Epilepsy Foundation provides grants to families with children who require epilepsy-related equipment that is not covered by insurance.
