Cell Interactive TV to create interactive voting for the Eurovision Song Contest Cell Interactive TV will make it possible for viewers of the Eurovision Song Contest on May 13, 2000 to vote for their favorites using their remote controls. In cooperation with the primary sponsors Senda and Boxer TV-Access, Cell Interactive TV has developed an interactive application for the terrestrial digital TV network. Saturday, May 13, 2000 will be the premier for the interactive voting application in conjunction with Swedish Television's broadcast of the European Song Contest from Stockholm's Globe Arena. Cell Interactive TV has developed this service, which processes votes from Swedish digital TV households. Using their remote controls, viewers can register their votes directly from their armchairs. "Swedish Television will be one of the first channels in the world to offer interactivity via the remote control during a live broadcast," says Magnus Granqvist, president of Cell Interactive TV. "This will provide a preview of what interactivity can offer in the form of new, exciting program concepts for tomorrow's digital TV consumers." Interactive services are in increasing demand among TV channels and production companies around the world as digital TV and broadband networks are being built out. "The increasingly clearer convergence of entertainment, IT and broadband technology is creating new business opportunities for our customers. Cell Network is well positioned in this arena through its extensive expertise in Internet, TV and broadband technology," says Marcus Bäcklund, president and CEO of Cell Network. "This application is a first step in the development of the digital services that will soon make the TV an important and easily accessible complement to computers and the Internet," says Anders Appelqvist, president of Boxer TV-Access.
