Computer system facilitates Estonia's visa processing Cell Network in Sweden and Estonia have developed a computer system, Visa Registry, for managing the routines associated with visas in Estonia, which gives access to all conceivable information regarding visas. The project has been highly successful and was implemented in collaboration between Cell Network and Swedfund, a venture capital company owned by the Swedish state. The Estonian visa registry is a web-based information system which means that the relevant authorities will have access to all information regarding visas. The Estonian Home Office, Immigration, Police and Customs will all be working with the same integrated database. Processing at the borders will be quicker and much of the previous doubling of work will disappear. Obtaining a visa, extending it, or making corrections will be easier, even overseas as the embassies will have access to the system. Project Manager, Lembe Käärmann of Cell Network/ Assert in Tallinn is very satisfied with the results. "Now different authorities can collaborate and co-ordinate their duties," she says. "There will be less work for everyone involved, and at the same time it will be more efficient."
