CellPoint Helps Mobile Operators and Service Providers to Reduce Capital Investment Benchmark Challenge Remains Open London, February 7, 2002 - CellPoint Inc. (Nasdaq: CLPT), a global provider of mobile location software technology and platforms, announces that the Company has achieved a +60% reduction in server hardware costs by using the latest equipment available and through continued enhancement of the software at the heart of its Mobile Location Service (MLS) and Mobile Location Broker (MLB) platforms. Both entry-level platforms fully retain all the carrier-grade features such as the ability to handle over 500,000 location requests per hour and a redundant system that delivers telecom-grade availability. Naturally, these savings will be passed on to CellPoint's customers. "Operators can now launch a fully-featured location platform with high throughput, high availability and best-of-breed price performance," said Stephen Childs, President of CellPoint. "Server hardware costs are no longer a barrier when considering what is now the most cost-effective solution on the market. We have seen hardware pricing as a barrier in the past in take up of location services in general, so the work we've done to take advantage of the latest available hardware, coupled with our software enhancements, makes the hardware investment an issue no longer for operators and service providers." In November 2001, CellPoint published throughput data to set the standard for the rest of the industry and invited challenges from any location platform vendor in any GSM environment. "We've set a new bar again in price-performance for location platforms with our published data and now are presenting reductions in hardware costs for the new server and disk systems," said Childs. "CellPoint's entry-level location platforms can process 140 locations per second, and we truly want to go head-to-head with any vendor offering location platform solutions today. It's about commercial availability, performance, a solid technology roadmap to 3G and affordability - we've nailed down these key elements and our engineers have done a tremendous job in scaling down the hardware requirements to run our powerful location platforms."
