Ceridian UK’s Simon Parsons appointed Chair of the BCS Payroll Group

Ceridian UK’s director of payments, benefits and compliance strategies, Simon Parsons, has been appointed chair of the British Computer Society (BCS) Payroll Group at its AGM. The Payroll Group takes an active role in payroll related consultations with government and has secured representation on most of the HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) consultation groups on employer issues. It reports to the BCS Government Relations Group.

Doug Sawers, managing director of Ceridian UK said: “This appointment recognises Simon’s expertise, professionalism and standing in the payroll industry. Simon has been a major contributor to Ceridian payroll know-how since 1984.

“As well as being influential in the development of award-winning Ceridian payroll services, Simon is a specialist in UK tax and social insurance legislation. He sits on a number of government consultation groups and panels which deal with the development and application of payroll impacting UK government policy.”

The HMRC groups on which Simon Parsons serves include the Employers Consultation Forum, the Expenses & Benefits sub group (HMRC), the Statutory Payments Group (HMRC/DWP/BIS), CASH (Collaborative Assembly of Software developers and HMRC), the Payroll Providers Forum (DWP), the Consultative Committee of the Office for Tax Simplification and the Real Time Information Customer User Group. He has also been actively involved in the implementation of initiatives in relation to pension reform.

A fellow of the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals and one of the original Masters of Science in Payroll Management, Simon is a regular author and speaker on payroll matters. He is also Chair of IReeN, the electronic exchange with government user network.

Simon Parsons has won a number of awards in the past including the Strathearn Award for Lifetime Achievement at the 2012 Pay & Benefits Awards, the Payroll Alliance Award for Advancing the Payroll Profession in 2010 and IPP Person of the Year in 2006.
