Leading retailer WH Smith signs up to Ceridian UK pension auto enrolment solution
WH Smith, one of the UK’s leading retailers, has signed up to the new off-the-shelf Auto Enrolment module from Ceridian UK, one of the UK’s leading HR and payroll providers.
Anthony Lawrence, group HR director, at WH Smith PLC said: “Having given serious consideration to handling pension auto enrolment in-house, it became apparent that not only were the timelines to do it so narrowing that we could not guarantee full compliance with legislation but also that employing extra people would not be the most cost-effective solution. The low cost of the technology outweighed the cost of meeting legal compliance manually. Critically, the Ceridian solution will ensure accuracy and reliability of employee data.
“As the Ceridian Auto Enrolment module automatically identifies and enrols relevant employees into the chosen pension scheme, ensuring data accuracy and easing the communication and administration processes, it will definitely enable us to cost-effectively meet our obligations as a responsible employer.”
David Woodward, chief product and innovation officer, at Ceridian UK said: “Our off-the-shelf solution manages auto enrolment and all the communication, control and self-service aspects of pension reform in a cost-effective and risk-free way and has proven the perfect answer for WH Smith and its 16,000 employees.
“WH Smith employees are already familiar with our HRevolution SaaS solution through online payslips. Our Auto Enrolment module operates through this same solution so provides a familiar and integrated feel.
“With the Ceridian Auto Enrolment module, auto enrolment determination takes place at the moment pay is calculated. WH Smith has elected to take our premium pension reform auto enrolment solution that also manages all the communications via self-service and provides extended audit/compliance control capabilities. The solution covers everything from employee communication (via the HRevolution portal) to managing the postponement periods and handling refunds in the payroll if an employee opts out. It is, we believe, the most integrated fully comprehensive solution on the market.
“As a result there are very few touch points, everything is handled automatically. This eliminates the possibility of human error and the huge administrative burden now being placed on employers. Manual administration is reduced to a minimum while ensuring full legal compliance.”
