Demonstrate electrical competency

Having appropriately trained and certified staff is essential in any business. This is especially the case for service and manufacturing staff. Now the Catering Equipment Suppliers Association (CESA) and the Catering Equipment Distributors Association (CEDA), both represented in the CESRB (Catering Equipment Standards and Registrations Board), have worked together with British Gas to deliver the City & Guilds CEDA/CESA Competency Electrical Course.

The course, initially aimed at CESA/CEDA member companies, will allow engineers to demonstrate their knowledge of basic electrical systems and tasks, and receive City and Guilds certification. It is designed to teach how to recognise safe working practices relating to electricity in the workplace. Applicants will learn the fundamental principles of electrical energy, how to perform routine electrical tasks and basic first aid related to electrical hazards.

“The course enables engineers and companies to demonstrate competency and professionalism by teaching applicants how to safely carry out basic electrical tasks,” says Nick Oryino, CESA and CESRB chair. “It will benefit the whole of the industry and ensure a uniform, common level of training for engineers. For companies, it means they can be sure that their employees are trained and able to demonstrate their competence in this critical area”.

Demand is expected to be very high and bookings will be taken on a first come first served basis, with no more than two candidates per CESA/CEDA member company on each course. The cost is £420 per candidate to include refreshments and a City and Guilds certificate on successful completion of the course.
