CESA Council Expands and Up-skills

Larger body reflects increasing workload as Association puts catering industry case to legislators in the UK and Brussels

CESA is to expand its main Council, from twelve to a maximum of sixteen members. The move reflects the increase in workload undertaken by the Association, especially in relation to its commitments in advising and lobbying in the UK and Brussels.

“The work and role of CESA has expanded significantly over recent years,” says chair Nick Oryino. “Our Council members are directly involved in a wide range of areas. They include arguing the catering industry’s case to legislators at home and overseas, working with UK Trade & Industry to promote exports, and advising government bodies on areas such as waste management and energy saving.

“Meanwhile, the CESA membership has grown to 176 companies, spanning the breadth of the equipment manufacturers, prime importers and European distributors in addition to the spare part and service sectors.

“Throughout this growth, the Association’s strategic workload has been undertaken by a Council comprising twelve elected members.”

The CESA AGM in November 2013 ratified the expansion. “The move enables us to retain the knowledge and experience of our existing Council, whilst ‘up-skilling’ it with new members who can add specific sector expertise,” says Oryino. “It will increase the strategic strength of the organisation.”

There is no financial implication associated with the change, since the elected members receive no payment for their time or travel in relation to CESA work. It is undertaken on a voluntary basis, with their companies bearing any related costs.

The new Council members elected during the AGM are Steve Coates (Advance Group), Richard Cromwell (Nisbets), Steve Elliott (Serviceline) and Glenn Roberts (Gram). They bring the current total number of Council members to fifteen. “We’ll consider recruiting a sixteenth once the new members have settled in,” says Oryino.

The Catering Equipment Suppliers Association (CESA) is the authoritative voice of the catering equipment industry, representing over 170 companies who supply, service and maintain all types of commercial catering equipment - from utensils to full kitchen schemes.
