First products from new motor & drives constellation

Report this content

In 2011 Emotron, with its base in Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands, was acquired by Crompton Greaves, headquartered in India. Being the first new products developed in the new constellation, the IP20/21 version of Emotron FDU/VFX AC drives and the Emotron TSA softstarter demonstrate the future direction of the company in motor controls. By combining its senior technical expertise in Europe with a strong corporate organisation in India CG Drives & Automation has rapidly expanded its offering and now presents the new softstarters and AC drives along with CG’s wide range of electrical motors and transformers.

New AC drive, Emotron FDU/VFX in IP20/21 version up to 132 kW

The new IP20/21 series of drives from CG targets users of cabinet or wall mounted AC drives and is based on the globally well proven range of IP54 units, Emotron FDU and Emotron VFX. A robust mechanical design, easy access to connection terminals and a high level of component integration have been key objectives in the development and the new series includes standard features like:

  • Direct torque control for accurate and fast control (Emotron VFX).
  • Dedicated pump and fan control.
  • Programmable logical functions including comparators and timers
  • Motor load monitor with alarm level auto-set
  • Multi-lingual control panel with single-function keys and copy function
  • Built-in DC-choke for reduced harmonics and maximum voltage utilisation.
  • Integrated EMC filter Category C3.
  • Speed controlled fan in all powers for extended equipment lifetime.

The IP20/21 series of drives are optimised for mounting in electrical cabinets (IP20) or directly on a control room wall (IP21) and cover powers up to 132 kW.  For decentralised applications and harsh environment though, the company recommends their IP54 units of the same series. Emotron FDU and Emotron VFX AC drives are available for motor powers up to 3.000 kW.

New softstarter with integrated by-pass, Emotron TSA

The softstarter Emotron TSA is the first in a new line of CG high performance softstarters. It complements the company’s MSF line of heavy duty fully solid state softstarters and offers integrated by-pass contactors, soft torque starting, intelligent load monitoring and functions for smart stops, including braking capability. The company claims that by developing the Emotron TSA range, CG has taken a major step towards the ideal motor controller for applications where variable speed is not required.

  • Integrated by-pass.
  • 3-phase torque control.
  • Coated boards.
  • Multilingual LCD display.
  • Programmable logical and timer functions.
  • Real Time Clock.
  • Motor load monitor with alarm level auto-set.
  • Controlled braking capability.
  • Slow speed and jog operation.

The first frame sizes introduced suits motors with up to 100 A rated current but units up to 1,800 A will be available. Voltage classes include 200 – 525 V and 200 - 690 V.
