There are several possible explanations for why cow's milk in the mother's diet reduces the risk of child allergy. “One hypothesis is that cow's milk contains some unknown factor that activates the child's immune system and helps it to develop tolerance. But it can also be the case that the milk itself is neutral in relation to the immune system, but that the milk intake leads to a relatively lower intake of polyunsaturated fat, which we believe is favourable”, says Malin Barman.
