The Crane Companies Combine Forces for Komen Charities
Houston, Texas, October 15, 2012:
In conjunction with the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure October 6, 2012, and National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Crane Cares has embraced the cause of breast cancer awareness.
Crane Cares is the community involvement arm of the Crane Companies, a group of companies owned by Jim Crane, one of Houston’s more colorful and philanthropic businessmen. Crane Cares encourages Crane Company employees to get involved in community activities, from structured activities like the Komen Race, to blood donations, to recycling and more. Three Crane Companies—Champion Energy Services, Crane Freight and Cartage and Crane Worldwide Logistics—are headquartered at 1500 Rankin Road in Houston. These three companies combined forces recently to raise as much money as possible to support breast cancer awareness. With contributions still coming in, the Crane Cares team has raised nearly $10,000 in addition to their company pledge of bronze level sponsorship for the Komen Race. Fundraising efforts have included:
- Participation in the Komen Race for the Cure Saturday, October 6
- Promotion and participation in an office-wide Bake Sale for the Cure Monday, October 1
- Presentation of a Cupcake Eating Contest, Wednesday, October 3
- Numerous small competitions, such as guessing the number of candies in a jar, with proceeds going to the cause
“I don’t know of a family around that hasn’t been affected in some way by breast cancer,” said John Magee, president of Crane Worldwide Logistics. “We all have a personal link. It’s been a great experience for our companies to join forces and raise awareness and money for this project. We’ve had a great time doing this, and hope to participate even more in coming years.”
Champion Energy currently serves residential, governmental, commercial and industrial customers in deregulated electric energy markets in Texas, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey; governmental, commercial and industrial customers in Ohio and Maryland; and natural gas customers in Illinois. Crane Freight and Cartage is a ground trucking and logistics provider in the continental United States; Crane Worldwide Logistics is an international third-party logistics provider. The three Crane companies employ more than 1,500 people internationally.
