Buckinghamshire-based ATG Training has signed a new agreement with the National Skills Academy for Manufacturing (the Skills Academy) that will help to protect thousands of jobs by ensuring firms make the most of their investment in training. According to a recent study by Semta, the Sector Skills Council for Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies, around 1,250 engineering companies in the South East are at risk of failing because they are not hiring or training and are unaware of skills gaps in the workforce. The new partnership extends on an existing relationship between ATG Training and the Skills Academy, which is part of Semta and will help to address those skills gaps through the provision of accredited training programmes. Andy Thomas, Operations Director with ATG Training said he was delighted that this relationship will continue to develop with his company providing high quality training on behalf of the Skills Academy. “We’ve made a substantial investment with the Skills Academy this year. Because the training programmes it offers are so thorough, we are currently seeing a significant increase in demand from employers who want to up-skill their workforce,” he explained. Semta and the Skills Academy have also helped ATG Training to deliver initiatives which aim to improve the skills of employees as a route to improving their business performance. As a result more employees from the manufacturing and engineering sectors are gaining level II and III NVQ qualifications. Continued Andy: “As well as delivering Business Improvement Techniques (B-IT) qualifications developed by the Skills Academy, we also provide a full range of apprenticeships and technical courses which are helping to close the skills gap and making UK businesses more competitive.” Bill Twigg, Development Director at Semta, added: “By working with leading training providers such as ATG Training, that are accredited by the Skills Academy, employers are now able to access world-class training courses and nationally recognised qualifications that have a proven track record of delivering a six to one return on investment.” - E N D S –
