Cooper SH, the UK’s leading provider of Konecranes port and terminal equipment, has made the final shortlist for two of next year’s Fork Lift Truck Association (FLTA) Awards. Up for the Environment and Safety awards are the company’s Eco Drive and NearGuard systems. Launched earlier in the year, Eco Drive and NearGuard have made lasting improvements on both operator safety and forklift truck operations. As a unique management software system, Eco Drive can measure individual driver performance based on idle time, fuel consumption and productivity saving fleet owners up to £11,000 in fuel costs. David Cooper, managing director of Cooper SH, commented: “There are very few other systems on the market that produce the same results as Eco Drive. The implementation of it will save eight per cent in fuel consumption, or in other words, an incredible 58 tonnes of additional CO2 on one machine alone.” Cooper SH’s NearGuard alert system warns operators of any personnel working within the close vicinity of machines. Fitted with four sensors, forklift trucks are able to locate nearby personnel (or other objects) by reacting to RFID tags attached to operator/object. David Cooper continues: “Drivers are alerted to operators in close proximity by an audible alarm via a ‘target’ colour LCD screen within the cab. The system acts at 20 meters range and escalates when seven meters or less has been breached.” The FLTA is internationally recognised as a leading independent authority on forklift trucks and its awards are an annual celebration of innovation and best practice recognised within the industry. The Awards will be held on February 12, 2011 at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Birmingham. - ENDS – High resolution images to support release: Eco Drive – click here NearGuard – click here
