Nine members of staff from the Bibby Line Group, including five employees from Newcastle-under-Lyme based, Bibby Consulting & Support, recently set sail on the Spirit of Fairbridge to help disadvantaged young people turn their lives around. With 1.2 million young people out of education, training or unemployed and 1.6 million living in overcrowded, temporary or run-down housing, the nine volunteers raised over £1,000 for Fairbridge; a charity dedicated to helping give disadvantaged 13-25 year olds the motivation, self-confidence and skills they need to change their lives. Starting from Glasgow, the volunteers set sail to the Isle of Bute aboard the charity’s 92-foot tall sailing ship, the Spirit of Fairbridge. The weekend trip consisted of team building activities and the employees got a taste of the work that Fairbridge does. “It was a truly rewarding experience,” commented Jason Saunt, Senior Designer for Bibby Consulting and Support. “I realised just how necessary the charity’s work is for helping young individuals gain new skills and life experience.” Fairbridge has helped more than 3,500 individuals take steps in the right direction with 85 per cent returning to the classroom, starting a college course, receiving a qualification or finding a job. “There are so many young people missing out on a decent education through no fault of their own,” continued Jason: “My thanks go to my colleagues who have kindly donated to Fairbridge.” The Bibby Line Group matches pound for pound what its employees raise. In 2010, £321,730 was raised which the company matched. For more information about Fairbridge, visit: http://www.fairbridge.org.uk/ - ENDS - Images to support this release: click here
