A Cannock-based company that supplies forklift trucks hosted a visit from a group of 30 children from Jerome Primary School to help them understand how they can make their own contribution to the future. The half day visit to Briggs Equipment, which took place on Wednesday 8th July, was hosted by CEO Richard Close and with the aim to educate the children about the range of jobs carried out by people in their community. Richard Close said: “At Briggs we feel a responsibility to help pupils participate and engage with their communities. We hope to contribute to developing their confidence and responsibility and make the most of their abilities so that they live to their full potential in the future.” The 10-11 year olds spent time on a site tour as well as participating in special 5 min briefings from each department. A Q&A session with CEO Richard Close, complete with afternoon tea, helped them understand how the working world relies on what they learn in school. The children saw how businesses specialise into smaller departments, and how these smaller teams contribute to the success of the company. A forklift demonstration and talk tied in practical application to subjects such as science and maths. Jerome head teacher, Jeff Eaton, said: “Much of citizenship learning takes place in a child’s primary years, and tangible benefits accrue in schools that adopt a citizenship rich practice. Pupils’ confidence and understanding is increased and they tend to reach higher levels of achievement and inclusion. We are grateful that Briggs’ people have given up their valuable time to help our children.” -- ENDS -- Image to accompany this release: High res image to download for print: http://www.changeworkscom.co.uk/PRImages/Jerome%20Primary.jpg
