A Cannock-based company enlisted the help of a host of ‘celebrities’ and BBC’s Pudsey Bear during the week commencing November 16 and raised £1,618 for Children in Need. Staff at Briggs Equipment got involved in a week’s worth of fundraising to help the appeal and had a ‘Celebrity Car Wash’ as its main event on Friday, November 20. The company, which is the UK’s sole national supplier of Cat® Lift Trucks, also had a visit from the BBC’s (Midlands) Pudsey Bear. Aramark, Briggs’ in-house restaurant services provider, had won the costume for the day after entering a competition. Between 10:00am and 4:00pm on the Friday, staff swapped their daily activities to work with the community and dressed up as their favourite stars to clean the cars of nearly 100 motorists. All the money raised was then matched by the company. The public met the likes of Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe and the Pink Ladies all using pressure washers supplied by Nilfisk. Staff also kept themselves warm during the cold and wintery day thanks to the people heaters kindly supplied by Travis Perkins. Even Briggs’ Director of Operations, Gavin Wickham, joined in the fun and swapped his briefcase for a jet washer. “The BBC Children in Need Appeal is a charity close to us here at Briggs. We are very pleased with the amount of money we raised and we are proud to be associated with this worthy cause,” commented Gavin. In addition to the celebrity car wash, the company hosted a “Quiz Day”, “Big Cake Day”, “Dress Up, Dress Down Day” and “Director’s Job Swap”.
