Battery specialist wins high-speed rail contract

Battery specialist HOPPECKE Industrial Batteries has won a contract with Siemens Transportation Systems who built and maintain the Heathrow Express high-speed trains. Primarily aimed at executives, the Heathrow Express uses a dedicated line from Paddington to Heathrow and gets passengers from door to door in just 15 minutes. The service provides a business class experience for passengers, featuring telephones, air conditioning, on-board entertainment and news. As a company committed to the environment and to minimising costs, Hoppecke Industrial Batteries has done what it believes no other company has done before. Rather than dismantle its stand at a recent engineering exhibition in Birmingham, the firm decided to transfer the whole structure to its offices in Newcastle-under-Lyme. This involved several fork lift trucks – powered by Hoppecke batteries of course – and even a high-profile police escort up the M6.
