June 17 story time event to feature community fathers reading to local Charlotte youth.

To celebrate, uplift, and recognize the impact positive male figures have on their families and their communities, all ages are welcomed for a 2-hour story time event featuring community fathers reading to local Charlotte youth and their families. The event will take place on Friday, June 17, 2016, from 3pm–5pm at the Sugar Creek branch of Charlotte Mecklenburg Library (4045 N Tryon St, Charlotte, NC). There will also be several literacy-related activities for the families and children who attend.

The event aims to honor and spotlight a diverse group of fathers, as well as celebrate the impact of fatherhood and positive male reinforcement. It will also offer opportunities to discuss the influence and challenges faced by fathers of color and how to use community resources to combat everyday pitfalls.

The one-day event will feature guest speakers including guest reader Danny Diaz (WPEG Power98 Radio Host); resource sharing, family friendly activities, and lively results-driven conversations. There will also be a free book give-away sponsored by First Book.
