A university education advocate and a local government administrator have agreed to serve on Charlotte Mecklenburg Library's Board of Trustees starting in January.

Ellen McIntyre is the Dean of the College of Education at UNC Charlotte. She holds a BA in Elementary Education and an MEd in Reading Education from Northern Kentucky University. She obtained her Ed.D in Literacy Education from the University of Cincinnati. A passionate teacher, Dr. McIntyre has taught first, second and sixth grades. She has held many leadership roles at the departmental, college, university, state, and national levels.

Hyong Yi is an assistant city manager for the City of Charlotte. From 2004 to 2014, he served as Mecklenburg County’s management and budget director, responsible for strategic planning, developing the County’s annual $1.4 billion operating budget and the capital budget. He received his master's degree in public administration and a bachelor's degree in political science from the American University in Washington, D.C.

McIntyre and Yi will replace two board members who rolled off the board last year, philanthropist Joan Martin and attorney Bob Sink.

Library Board of Trustees chair, Jennifer Appleby will welcome the new board members on January 25, 2016 at the regularly scheduled board meeting.

Library CEO Lee Keesler said, "Ellen and Hyong bring important and highly respected skills, knowledge and experience to our Board that will strengthen our organization.  Both also are heavy Library users, which will inform their advice and counsel to our staff and me.  We're very excited to have them join our Board of Trustees."

Charlotte Mecklenburg Library operates under the guidance of a volunteer Board of Trustees whose members give generously of their time, talent and support to further the Library's mission.  The Board consists of eleven trustees, ten of whom are appointed by the Board of County Commissioners and one of whom is appointed by the Board of Education.  The Board of Trustees hires, directs and advises the Library CEO, adopts organizational policies and an annual budget, and serves as principal advocate for the organization.
