Charlotte Mecklenburg Library invites public to celebrate with special events planned for Saturday, August 29, 2015.

The Plaza Midwood branch of Charlotte Mecklenburg Library (1623 Central Avenue, Charlotte) is turning twenty this year. Much in the neighborhood has changed since the branch opened in this location, but the library at the corner of Central Avenue and The Plaza still remains a gathering place for the many people who live and work in this vibrant neighborhood.

To mark the anniversary, the branch is hosting a free, public celebration on Saturday, August 29, 2015. “We look forward to celebrating this milestone with our many devoted customers,” said Branch Manager Tom Holloway. “And hopefully we’ll meet more community members who have not yet discovered us.”

Festivities that day include:

11 a.m.            Opening remarks

11:30 a.m.       The Plaza Family Band (performance for all ages)

2 p.m.              Bilingual children's program (Spanish and English)

6 p.m.              Mike Strauss Band (The branch will close at 5 p.m. as usual, but will reopen at 6 p.m. for this evening performance.)

Throughout the day there will be games and "make and take" activities for children, as well as snacks, cake and prize drawings. La Brea Bakery will have a food truck onsite offering free samples of artisan bread with spreads/toppings.

Plaza Midwood branch hours: The library is open Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information call 704-416-6200.
