Travel the World with Día, a Celebration of Children, Reading and Culture
Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is celebrating El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day) with programs taking place in select Library locations and community agencies throughout the month of April. Also known as Día, this initiative emphasizes the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
Children and families are invited to celebrate at special events, including a meet-the-author program at West Boulevard Library April 23, and a grand finale celebration at ImaginOn April 28. Meet Author and Illustrator Eric VelásquezMonday, April 23 from 6:30-7:45 p.m.West Boulevard Library, 2157 West Boulevard | 704-416-7400Learn about the career and culture of children’s author and illustrator Eric Velásquez. Eric’s body of work includes more than 300 book jackets and interior illustrations such as Grandma’s Record, David Gets His Drum and, one of his favorites, Liberty Street.
Día Grand Finale CelebrationSaturday, April 28 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center, 300 East 7th Street | 704-416-4600Celebrate the grand finale of Día on Tour the amazing Mr. Nigel and Friends and a performance from the children in the Library’s Learning Together program. Children who visit two library locations in April can collect two different color tickets and get special access at Día’s finale celebration.
