Tune in Monday to hear Library teens LIVE
Charlotte Mecklenburg Library teens will be “turning it up“ live on a Charlotte radio station, using what they’ve learned from the Library’s radio digital journalism program, Turn it Up Teen Radio (TIU).
TIU is a teen-driven digital media and journalism production show that is part of the Library’s student internship program.
Turn it Up teens rated best of the best will broadcast live Monday, June 30 on Power98FM (97.9) at 9 p.m. Their topic? "Parents Just Don't Understand: Bridging the Communication Gap”. They are hoping you will tune in and call during the show at (704) 570-9734.
TIU began as a pilot program in 2013. Since that time, 29 students have participated in the internship program where they are exposed to professionals in the field such as WFAE 90.7FM, Carolina School of Broadcasting and Connecticut School of Broadcasting.
Participants have gone on to win scholarships in the Carolina School of Broadcasting, some have received class credit for their participation, and all have had the chance to obtain hands-on experience in the world of radio broadcasting and journalism.
Teens interested in participating in the next Turn it Up Teen Radio session can begin signing up July 15 through August 15. Season Four will take place from September 18, 2014 through December 18.
