The Charlottesville Albemarle Convention and Visitors Bureau (CACVB) invites everyone to consider the Charlottesville, Virginia area for a late fall getaway. With plenty of events and activities, the epicenter of Virginia offers a multitude of options for recreation and entertainment.
Back for a 26th consecutive year, the Virginia Film Festival features over 100 films and nearly as many guests that showcase the best of contemporary and classic films alike while shining a spotlight on a wide variety of cultural issues and themes. From traditional screenings and lectures to dynamic parties and special events, the festival appeals to a broad spectrum of audience interests. Some of the Festival’s special guests include famous actress Tippi Hendren and a special screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds”, Saturday Night Live’s Will Forte, documentary filmmaker Alan Berliner and actress Jess Weixler. Family Day is one of the most popular events of the Virginia Film Festival and this year is expected to be as exciting, with a special presentation of the classic movie “Peter Pan” on Saturday. Then later this month, Virginia Cider Week will kick-off its second edition, which will be held from November 15 through the 24. During Virginia Cider Week, restaurants, shops and cider makers across the state will hold dinners, in-store tastings, workshops and classes promoting Virginia cider. Virginia is the first state to have an officially proclaimed “Cider Week”, and this is only the second weeklong cider celebration in the US. Over 100 restaurants and shops in 30 cities will promote cider during Virginia Cider Week. The week includes 20 special events in Blacksburg, Charlottesville, Crozet, Richmond, Roanoke, Staunton and Washington, DC, plus cider promotions at shops, cafes, bistros and fine dining restaurants. Even though the fall season is well under way, Charlottesville and Albemarle County still offer some of the most spectacular autumnal landscapes in the country. The Shenandoah National Park Fall Color Report describes the current scenery: “The foothills of the Piedmont are still smoldering with the hues of a spice cabinet – cinnamons and cocoas, paprika and cayennes, turmerics and cumins, even some dillweeds and filé powders, the greens that have either not yet begun to turn color or will never turn because they are evergreens like pines and a few hemlocks.” Charlottesville is located only 26 miles from the Rockfish Gap entrance to the Shenandoah National Park, which is a unique location to enjoy this colorful season either by foot with a crisp hike or relaxing drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
