Glasgow is playing host to around 300 chartered physiotherapists from all over the UK for the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) Annual Representative Conference, held at the Glasgow Hilton hotel on the 9th and 10th February. The CSP is the professional, educational and trade union body for the UK's 48,000 chartered physiotherapists, physiotherapy students and assistants. Members of the CSP, working in the NHS and in private practice, will debate issues as wide ranging as public sector pensions, the health and wellbeing of the NHS workforce, the opposition to violence against women, and climate change. With a general election looming, potential cuts to NHS physiotherapy services and changes to pay and working conditions will also be hot topics for delegates. Ann Green, Chair of Council at the CSP, says: “The health and wellbeing of people throughout the UK is the primary concern of members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. Our two day conference gives physiotherapy professionals the opportunity to discuss a wide range of health and social issues that have an impact on us and our patients, or vice versa. “We anticipate that 2010 will see some particularly challenging issues - potential cuts to public spending would have a major impact on the way health services are delivered. This gathering of three hundred or so physiotherapists, representing the wider profession, gives us the perfect opportunity to gauge how we can contribute to these changes in the most positive way, while remaining relevant and adding value to modern healthcare.” Notes to editors 1.
