SUM IT UP #5 at MITP: Celebrating Milestones in Moldova's Tech Evolution
Chisinau, Moldova - Moldova Innovation Technology Park (MITP.md) recently marked a significant milestone with the conclusion of its 5th SUM IT UP event. This event showcased the dynamic growth and significant advancements within Moldova's tech ecosystem, affirming MITP's crucial role in shaping the nation's technological landscape.
Dumitru Alaiba, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, opened the event with a vision of extending guarantees for the IT Park for another 12 years. He expressed hope for IT integration across all sectors of the economy and emphasized the government's role in facilitating this transformation.
Reflecting on the period from 2018 to 2023, MITP has become a driving force in the emergence of three-quarters of resident companies and doubling the IT sector's business figures, significantly contributing to the GDP. With over 20,000 professionals, its impact on job creation in the tech sector is evident.
Natalia Donțu, Administrator of MITP, underscored the economic impact and job creation, stating,
"In 2023, we witnessed the creation of over 1,900 new jobs within residents of the Park, fueled by both the influx of new resident companies and the expansion of existing ones."
This growth exemplifies MITP's contribution to the national economy and its status as a leading force in the Moldovan IT industry.
"In the first year of the park's operation, IT exports exceeded wine exports by 2.5 billion lei"
Natalia Donțu highlighted, emphasizing MITP's positive impact on the country's trade balance.
MITP's resident companies are recognized for offering the highest salaries in the Moldovan economy. "3.3% of the country's workforce in the IT sector is responsible for generating 5% of the national GDP," further highlighted the substantial economic contribution of these companies. They are also noted for their employee-centric policies, including extended vacation, flexible work hours, remote working options, medical insurance, and language courses.
As Europe’s first e-Park, MITP fosters a vibrant community where companies and institutions collaborate seamlessly, driving the exchange of ideas and expertise. This collaborative environment enhances the overall innovation capacity of the Moldovan tech sector. Mihaela Negru, Program Director at MITP, discussed the park's role in fostering tech entrepreneurship through community power, co-creation, collaboration, and maintaining competitiveness. "MITP is also about the initiatives it undertakes," added Anton Perkin, CEO of FusionWorks, highlighting the significance of events like the Rethink IT Podcast and Moldova Innovation Awards in business development.
Andrei Jizdan, Managing Partner of "Jizdan & Partners", praised MITP's functionality and success, citing the simplicity of its fiscal system, the elimination of net and gross salary distinctions, and the benefits of digitalization.
"MITP is a functional concept that has proven its success and value through the figures presented"
he stated.
The summit discussed MITP's role in empowering businesses through legislative support and the unique advantages offered by Moldova's legal framework. Experts emphasized the park's role in simplifying the complexities of the business environment, thereby providing a conducive landscape for business growth and development.
MITP's strategies for global outreach and international market penetration were also highlighted at the summit.
"Our goal is to extend Moldova's tech footprint on the global stage through attracting foreign investments and promoting exports"
explained Natalia Donțu.
Looking ahead, MITP envisions Moldova becoming a regional leader in high-value-added products and services.
