Harvest Hope Food Bank received a $75,000 grant from Walmart to assist with providing hunger relief to area families in need. This grant will greatly help several regions in the state by giving Harvest Hope additional resources to provide quality food to the 20 S.C. counties it serves.

Harvest Hope provides food, comfort and hope to hungry individuals and families in the Midlands, Pee Dee and Greater Greenville regions of South Carolina. In addition to these services, Harvest Hope partners with over 450 nonprofit organizations and is the state’s primary disaster hunger relief emergency feeding organization as designated by S.C. Emergency Management Division.

“We appreciate the generosity and compassion of Walmart,” said Denise Holland, executive director of Harvest Hope Food Bank. “Walmart’s continued support is extremely valuable in helping us to fulfill our mission to help hungry people by gathering quality food and sharing it with them with dignity, compassion and education.”

“Organizations such as Harvest Hope Food Bank are a lifeline to building stronger communities,” said James Gilmore, regional general manager with Walmart. “It’s an honor to support this group – and through this donation, we hope that residents in need will benefit especially during the holiday season.”

In 2013, community giving in South Carolina from Walmart stores, Sam’s Clubs and the Walmart Foundation totaled $29.2 million.
