For the Chesapeake Beach Resort & Spa 2012 has been a banner year due to the variety of awards won from local and national publications. Starting in 1946 as the Rod ‘N’ Reel Restaurant and Marina, the Resort has grown to become a premier waterfront destination location for both land lovers and boaters who want to have a quintessential Chesapeake Bay experience, and patrons of the Resort have weighed in to recognize several of the many aspects of this popular venue.

Most of the awards the Resort won so far this year stem from reader’s polls in several publications, where individuals vote for a “Best Of” in selected categories. Maryland Life Magazine voted the Chesapeake Beach Resort & Spa best in several categories including “Maryland’s Best Southern Region Weekend Resort”, “Best Spa Resort”, “Best Couples Getaway” and “Best Marina”.

What’s Up Magazine readers voted the Spa as “Best Resort Spa”, in an annual poll conducted by the magazine earlier this year. The popular regional publication also recently published a feature article highlighting the rich history of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland and the part the Resort has played in that over the years. 100 years ago Chesapeake Beach, Maryland was a thriving vacation destination with visitors coming by steamship and railway to stay at the grand hotel, dine on local seafood dishes, gamble, play at the waterfront amusement park and stroll on the boardwalk. Today the Chesapeake Beach Resort & Spa embodies that same spirit of a complete Chesapeake Bay waterfront getaway destination.

The Resort is also rapidly becoming known as an ideal venue for waterfront weddings as recognized by the national bridal publication The Knot, which bestowed the Resort with its “2012 Best Of” Award. Last year the popular online and print publication voted the Resort one of the tops 10 most talked about venues in D.C., Maryland and Virginia. Wedding Event Manager Lori Kirby-Medlin says, “We are enjoying the increased number of couples choosing our venue as more people discover our beautiful waterfront location and all we have to offer for destination wedding events. We encourage couples searching for a waterfront wedding venue to come see our fantastic location”.

In addition, the Resort has won first place from an international sign contest sponsored by ST Media Group publication Sign of the Times” for its free standing electric sign newly erected at the Rod ‘N’ Reel Dock Marina. Resort owners were inspired by the sign design at the world famous fishing Pier in Santa Monica California and local sign company Gable Signs brought it to life.

Co-owner Gerald Donovan states, “We have a lot of wonderful team members that make it all happen! We are very grateful for the recognition of these various awards, but the greatest recognition is to satisfy our guests and hopefully exceed their expectations.

Best known for the Rod ‘N’ Reel restaurant, the Resort also features two other dining locations, Smokey Joe’s Grill and the outdoor Boardwalk Café. The Resort’s luxury hotel has continual seasonal specials and packages with family activities for all ages including the new I Love Beach Music live music series on Wednesday nights through September and Rock the Dock on Sundays through the summer. Guests can also enjoy water sports and Charter Fishing from the Resort’s two marinas, gaming, and the newly renovated waterfront spa and salon make the Resort the ideal location for a totally relaxing retreat.

The Resort complex is located at 4165 Mears Avenue Chesapeake Beach, Maryland 20732, Flashing Green “1” at:  LAT 76°31 20 W, LONG 38°41 30 N. For more detailed information on the Chesapeake Beach Resort & Spa, Anniversary Specials and events, contact 410-257-2735 or visit www.cbresortspa.com.
