Motor Serv Take Victory

GROUPAUTO UK & Ireland Ltd (GROUPAUTO), the UK’s largest trading group were the overwhelming victors following a clean sweep of success at the latest karting competition organised by aftermarket trade magazine CAT.

GROUPAUTO member Motor Serv entered a four-man team consisting of Lewis Selby, Ian Burt, Mark Toms and Nick Tandy and took the win after an exciting climax and despite having to take a stop-go penalty on the last lap of the race.

The team completed 97 laps, one lap in front of the team that finished second and two laps ahead of the third-placed team. However, the bragging rights for being the fastest in a team of consistently quick drivers went to Nick, with a lap of 68.775 seconds.

Taking second and third positions respectively were two GROUPAUTO suppliers, Mountney, who also secured the evening’s fastest lap with a stunning time of 68.558 seconds and First Line, the winner of the inaugural event held in November last year, and which made the podium a GROUPAUTO dominated affair.

This latest race, which is clearly establishing itself as a regular double-header fixture on the aftermarket calendar, took place at Daytona, Milton Keynes and was blessed with fine, dry and warm weather and saw some good close racing.

Drawing a large number of aftermarket businesses and personnel, the race was well supported by the trade and resulted in 15 teams lining up on the starting grid.

Following its familiar format, the event consisted of a 30-minute practice session followed by a two-hour endurance race, during which each of the teams had to pit at least three times and also make a refuelling stop.

The Motor Serv team qualified in pole position and lead virtually the whole race, but it was touch-and-go during the last stint as the Mountney team put on a charge. However, they held on to finish some 40 seconds clear in the end.

Commenting on the Motor Serv’s win, GROUPAUTO’s managing director, Jim Mazza said: “Congratulations to the team at Motor Serv on a well deserved win, which obviously goes to prove just why GROUPAUTO members are the first for speed and reliability!”
