A PACT TO SUPPORT BUSINESS
Cost Control Made Easy
PACT, the joint venture between electronic trading specialists eparts and TecCom has been at the forefront of the UK aftermarket’s move to electronic trading and continues to help parts suppliers and motor factors communicate more quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively.
Following the latest disappointing figures from the Bank of England concerning the performance of the UK economy, PACT’s Peter Hollowood said: “With the most recent figures for the economy showing that it’s continuing to flat-line, the pressure on businesses in every sector to look at their bottom line and find cost savings is likely to increase and the aftermarket is sure to be no exception.
“Estimates suggest that collectively the UK’s independent repair sector spends more that £5billion annually on parts procurement, which is generally sourced through motor factors, who in turn buy from parts manufacturers or suppliers.
“Traditionally, this complex supply chain has been reliant on a predominantly manual process for the purchase-to-pay cycle, which inherently has high cost implications. With PACT however, the purchase order through to remittance procedure is integrated into an automated electronic process that is instant, accurate and labour free, and therefore delivers substantial cost savings to the administration process, which directly benefits the businesses using it.”
Today, more than 70 of the UK’s parts distributors have their systems ‘PACT enabled’, which means that their internal administration systems are able to be ‘linked’ with the business management systems of the UK’s motor factors: PACT simply needs to be given access to the system to initiate the system-to-system integration.
“With this process completed,” continued Hollowood, “any PACT enabled motor factor has the potential to reach any or all of these 70 suppliers through their existing IT system. This level of communication provides each party with an easy way to do business, which is highly efficient, carries virtually no labour costs and is paper-free.
“The PACT system also has a twofold benefit for the independent sector as the motor factor can check the stock, price and availability of the product the workshop needs in ‘real time’ and the cost of the part can be kept highly competitive because of the inherent cost-control of the e-trading process.
“At whatever level of the aftermarket businesses are operating, PACT provides the kind of administrative cost savings that can make a real difference to the profitability of the business, which means that those yet to initiate the system should seriously consider doing so.”
