ALTERNATORS IN FOCUS

Wood Auto, a leading auto-electrical specialist since 1929, has reported an extremely busy first quarter to 2010 despite the very tough trading conditions the country is facing. As an established business with very strong relationships within the rotating electrics industry, one of Wood Auto’s core strengths is the ability to source stock for those vehicle applications which are slightly more unusual or which are in high demand. One particular example of the latter position is the 150A and 120A alternators for the Ford Focus 1.6 and 2.0 TDCi’s. These alternators – Wood Auto references ALT30159 and ALT30200 – are prone to rectifier failure and are difficult for anyone other than a serious auto-electrical specialist to repair. Wood Auto is experiencing very high demand on these units, but it carries ample stock of both references, which are also used on the Volvo S40/V50, and the Mazda 3. The units are new, OE examples and as is usual practise with Wood Auto, they are available on an outright purchase bases and can be delivered nationwide on a next-day service. Wood Auto is also one of the few outlets that can supply the internal components needed to carry out the repair of these units following their failure. Therefore, those specialists capable of repairing these units will find the necessary regulators, rectifiers and support components in stock. Most of the UK’s rotating unit sales are sold on an exchange basis, so if the customer does not have the old core to ‘exchange’ when taking delivery of the new unit, they will be faced with the prospect of having to pay a surcharge on the product, which can sometimes be very expensive. However, Wood Auto supplies the majority of its units on an outright purchase basis, which means that the customer has the most convenient option and also has the benefit of keeping the ‘core’ and have it reconditioning at a later date. There is also no minimum order stipulation for UK orders. In the workshop, technicians not only need motor factors to supply them with good quality units at very competitive prices, they also need a comprehensive range and flexibility, which are all services offered as part of the Wood Auto package. With an expansive range of starters and alternators that cater for more than 4,800 application references, Wood Auto’s range is arguably the widest in the UK and its 30,000 unit stock holding, means product availability is first-class.
