ASHFORD WORKER ONE OF FINAL NINE NOMINEES FOR DICKIES WORKER OF THE YEAR
Dickies is proud to announce the nine contestants who have made the final shortlist in the inaugural UK Worker of the Year Competition. The workwear giant, who in April launched the feel-good initiative to recognise excellence in the British work force, has gone through the mammoth task of whittling down the hundreds of entries received to this select group. The final nine recently assembled at Pinewood studios (picture attached) for the decisive face-to-face interviews with the panel of judges. The final shortlist comprises a wide and fascinating mix of professions from all over Britain. Amongst them are a Scene of Crime Investigator, a Carpenter, an Auto Technician, a Fire Protection Engineer, a Teaching Assistant, a Store Supervisor and a Landscape Gardener. “It’s a great selection of different trades and professions,” enthused Dickies’ European Sales Director, Maurice Morton. “The response we had in terms of number of entries was tremendous and selecting the short list was a really tough job. We were massively impressed by how much effort many of the nominators had gone to in putting their entries together – and many were actually people nominating others who they thought did an exceptional job. I’ve really enjoyed meeting all of those who made the final short list in person.” Maurice is one of a five person judging panel which also includes TV Presenter and consumer champion, Quentin Willson and Coronation Street’s “Aunty Pam” – actress, Kate Anthony. The nine short-listed entries and their partners will all be invited to the UK Worker of the Year Awards gala dinner in the Ballroom of Pinewood’s Hetherden Hall manor house on Friday 29th of October. There the final award winners will be announced and one lucky member of the UK work force will come away with a brand new car or van, courtesy of Dickies, and the title of UK Worker of the Year 2010.
