AUTOMECHANIKA A HIT WITH MANBAT

Offering A Complete Solution Brings Success In Germany

Following Manbat’s debut appearance at Automechanika last week, the team has returned home from Frankfurt with a bulging enquiry book and an optimistic outlook as the response from visitors was positive and the opportunities real.

Although exhibitors selling batteries were certainly not uncommon at the Messe, what really set Manbat apart was the level of service it can offer and the logistical support it can provide, combined with the range and quality of the products it is able to supply.

Managing director, Steve Sheppard explains: “As well as having a fundamental understanding of the demands and requirements of the battery industry that comes with 60 years of experience in the market, Manbat is almost unique insomuch as it remains fundamentally a battery distributor, but is now also a part of a multinational lead smelting conglomerate.

“This arrangement means that we can still offer the logistical and service expertise that we are well-known for and which enables us to support businesses that sell batteries to grow their sales and increase their profits, but it also means that we have the quantities of scale that are necessary to allow us to compete directly with the battery manufacturers when it comes to the larger supply contracts, and this was particularly attractive to many of the visitors we met during the show.”

Another major benefit of being part of the Eco-Bat Technologies group is that Manbat can offer its customers what it describes as its closed loop recycling programme. This initiative revolves around the fact that within the group there are businesses that sell and distribute batteries and those that collect and disassemble batteries. These are supplemented by the main smelting operation that takes the scrap lead and re-fires it to produce lead ingots, wire, shot or strip products for various industries, including the battery manufacturing industry.

“It is certainly a great advantage for us to be able to demonstrate to our customers, and the potential customers we met during the show, that we can back-up the high quality batteries we supply with the ability to fully recycle scrap batteries,” Sheppard continued. “Being a part of the Eco-Bat group means that we can disassemble batteries into their constituent parts and then resupply them into the battery manufacturing process and to the other industries that use the other products, like gypsum that comes from sulphuric acid treatment or polypropylene, which comes from recycled battery cases.

“This all encompassing process allows us to offer an environmentally responsible solution for a product that has traditionally been regarded at hazardous and that’s a great story to be able to tell.”
