BEN Motors Ahead to Extend Reach

BEN, the automotive industry charity, has announced changes in a move to help even more of our industry colleagues. BEN already helps over 15,000 people a year with a wide range of advice and support as well as financial grants to those in the most need. Since joining BEN nearly two years ago, its Chief Executive David Main has been impressed at the work done by the charity, saying; “It’s clear to me that we’re making a real difference to the lives of thousands of people who are working or have worked in companies right across the automotive industry; we are, in essence, the welfare service for the industry. We now need to continually challenge ourselves as to whether there is more we can do.” With over 800,000 people currently employed and many more who have spent all or part of their careers in the industry, Main is convinced there are many who need help but who haven’t yet found their way to BEN. “Our main priority is to get our message out to people in every sector of the industry and to those at every level in each company.” BEN has therefore embarked on a re-structure of its management to provide focus to this agenda. A search will commence for a Head of Marketing with the skills, experience and network to ensure awareness of BEN is extended throughout our industry. This new recruit will work with our existing team, strengthening our resource in this area and increasing our capacity. BEN will also recruit a Head of Business Development to forge new relationships with organisations across the industry through which the Charity can generate sustainable income from new sources. The existing fundraising team will report to the Head of Business Development. In view of these changes, the role of Director of Fundraising and Communications has become redundant, and Charles Davis left BEN towards the end of September. Main commented: “We are extremely grateful to Charles for the contribution he made during his time with BEN and wish him the very best with his future career. Our priority now is to raise the profile of BEN, and create further understanding of the wide range of help we provide. Those who’ve come to us for help will attest to the difference BEN’s help has made to their lives and the caring and confidential way in which their needs were handled. We would ask those who know about BEN to spread the word to colleagues to help us achieve our vision of an industry in which everyone in need receives BEN’s care.”
