Fylde Coast bodyshop in Blackpool has secured new business since gaining the Kitemark over three years ago - it also holds the title of being the first bodyshop in Lancashire and the12th in the UK to gain the prestigious certification. Not all bodyshops are the same: To earn the Kitemark, vehicle body repair shops must prove that they conform to tough new standards set down in PAS 125. These include strict requirements that focus on skills, repair methods, equipment and materials. In addition, workshops must demonstrate that they have repair process management controls in place to monitor activities. All these elements are then assessed by independent BSI inspectors and must meet stringent benchmarks to be awarded the valuable Kitemark by BSI. Therefore a motorist should always look for the Kitemark symbol when choosing a bodyshop. David Hyland who was an engineer and had a passion for repairing cars established the successful bodyshop over 12 years ago. David was confident that the Kitemark was going to play a pivotal role in the future of his company. He knew the achievement would send a clear message of his commitment to providing the very best repair standards to every job. David commented: “I knew as soon as the Kitemark scheme for Vehicle Body Repair (based on PAS 125 standard) came along that it was here to stay and I knew that if we adopted early we could use it to market our bodyshop and really raise our profile. Internally the Kitemark scheme was well received, as my team are open to new ideas and actively embracing them. In addition all staff saw the benefits it would bring to the bodyshop and themselves. “We have benefited from better structure and processes in the business since gaining the Kitemark for Vehicle Body Repair and improved working practices. The Kitemark brand has set us apart. Customers have received it well and there have been real cash benefits to the bodyshop with new business being secured. “ With David looking at change and advancement to stay ahead of the game he has set up a fast-track repair shop, which provides a 24-hour turnaround on selected jobs. David concluded: “The Kitemark is the only way forward if cost is an issue, you really have to decide whether or not you want to be working with major work providers in the next couple of years.” Quentin Willson, consumer motoring champion added: “What Fylde Coast has achieved is a credit to their professionalism and commitment to delivering quality service for their customers. The Kitemark message is getting across and motorists are now making their choice clear so for any bodyshop business gaining Kitemark status is, and will continue to be, ever more important. “ For details on Kitemark visit www.kitemark.com.
