BSI Kitemark® certification continues to help Chester-based Peacock Garage build a sustainable business

Kitemark certification has delivered an upturn in business and better working practices for Chester-based Peacock Garage who gained the BSI Kitemark standard for garage services four years ago. BSI is an independent body that owns and operates the Kitemark scheme, which aims to improve quality and safety for consumers by ensuring that motorists are confident and happy with the work received; that they know what is being done on their vehicle and they are presented with clear and understandable service – every time. To obtain the Kitemark garages must address key areas: customer service, customer satisfaction, customer facilities – such as waiting areas, staff competencies – the quality of workmanship in the garage, their ability to use the equipment available, technical inspection and importantly fair and transparent billing. All these elements are then assessed by independent BSI inspectors and must meet stringent benchmarks if the valuable Kitemark is to be awarded by BSI. Peacock Garage was the first garage in Chester to gain the prestigious Kitemark for garage services setting itself apart from competitors by demonstrating transparent and efficient customer service. Dave Holroyd, who has over 20 years experience in mechanical repairs commented: “The Kitemark scheme has helped me implement the correct systems to run my business more efficiently. The scheme brings so many benefits to a garage business, but in particular for us it has improved our consistency of service, which has given our business a major boost. In addition staff, who were dubious at first, have quickly got on board with new working practices and they feel a joint sense of achievement and pride in the garage. The key thing is, when customers come to us, they are confident that they will receive a reliable and trusted service.” “The internal benefits alone are helping us to keep hold of existing customers and attract new ones through word of mouth. Every aspect of the business is documented and recorded. This protects both the garage and the motorist. Moreover, the Kitemark is creating new opportunities for us as a garage business. Competition in Chester is pretty rife and the credibility of the Kitemark brand gives us an edge and demonstrates that we are working to a recognised industry standard. “ Peacock Garage strategy is to continue to attract customers and become the recognised benchmark for its competitors. Scott Hanney, Business Development Manager, BSI added: “Peacock Garage should be rightly proud of this on-going certification. The management of a garage business should be able to view the adoption of PAS 80 as a business investment. The certification provides a blueprint for business improvement and providing evidence of corporate responsibility on behalf of work providers, retail customers and vehicle users.” - ENDS - Notes to Editors For media information Tracey Treanor, Chicane Tel: +44 (0) 07789 078710 Email: tracey@chicanemarketing.co.uk About BSI Group BSI Group is a global independent business services organization that develops standards-based solutions to improve management practices and promote innovation.
