BSI Kitemark receives strong support in a recent online CAT poll (published in the October issue of CAT). When readers were asked ‘should the BSI Kitemark for garages be adopted as a national standard” 77% said “yes it is the most robust standard out there.” Quentin Willson, UK consumer motoring champion added: “I'm proud that BSI and the Kitemark scheme is held in such fierce esteem by the industry. If a massive 77% say they believe that the Kitemark scheme is the most robust of all, then we really have arrived at a proper industry standard. Car repair professionals are usually economical with their praise so this result is the equivalent of a motoring knighthood!” The IAAF continues to voice its support for the BSI Kitemark for garage services and believes it will play an essential part in supporting and acting as a voice for independent garages.. PAS 80 is now five years old and is due for review and the IAAF is in discussion with the industry to establish new parameters that are appropriate for this review. The IAAF are confident that, provided some key areas are addressed, a satisfactory outcome can be expected and a very much greater uptake from the industry be achieved. Mike Owen, head of the IAAF-G section added: We look forward to moving forward with the industry to develop PAS 80 to better reflect the standards of garages today. We believe they offer robust quality and we want to support garages and ensure their interests are looked after.” The Kitemark Garage Services scheme also has the support of MP Robert Halfon who recently tabled a motion in parliament to recognise good quality garages and gain support for Kitemark as a good step forward in supplying this recognition; The motion therefore calls on the Coalition Government to support the BSI Kitemark as a demonstration of compliance to a known national standard. The Kitemark scheme for garages, operated by independent organisation BSI, aims to improve quality and safety for consumers by ensuring that the motorist is confident and happy with the work received, they know what is being done on their vehicle and they are presented with clear and understandable service – every time. All Kitemark garages are inspected and audited before they even get their licence. They are mystery shopped to ensure that the quality of service is consistently delivered and they are annually re-inspected to ensure standards are maintained. Anyone not maintaining the standard will have its Kitemark licence removed.
